flames through the roof of a house

Chicago had a the 2-11 this morning on the near west side at 2943 W Washington. Fire was in a very nice building, about 50×100 Greystone. It looked to be most of the fire was on the second floor and in the attic. Companies were making an interior attack and Truck 36 was making numerous holes on the roof. It was a cold, windy morning, and it seemed like the fire really took off when the wind picked up. Josh Boyajian

Lake Zurich (IL) firefighters were called to 3160 Louise Court in Hawthorn Woods Wednesday night (5/25/16) for a house fire. A series of heavy thunderstorms were moving through the area at the time. First arriving units reported smoke showing and pushing out from the eaves in front. Fire soon vented through the roof and interior companies made an aggressive attack knocking down the majority of the fire quickly. The alarm was upgraded to a Box Alarm bringing mutual aid from close to a dozen neighboring departments.

Just before 1830 hrs on Tuesday evening (7/22), the chief of Chicago’s 22nd Battalion pulled up on the scene of a working fire in an occupied 1.5-story frame residence.  The fire appeared to have started in the rear portion of the attic and quickly consumed much of the attic space.  With a three-story, ordinary, apartment building with wood frame porches as the sector D exposure, and a heat index near 100, the 22nd requested a Still & Box Alarm within minutes of arrival.  Heavy fire vented out the sector B dormer and through the roof above, but within a few minutes, the fire darkened down and was brought under control.  The truck seen in the images is 27.  This was the second evening in the last three that Engines 75 and 62 had a working fire in their still district.

Images from a Still & Box Alarm fire in Chicago’s 7th Battalion during September of 1989. As I arrived, I was afraid that I’d missed everything as the fire appeared to be out on the first floor. I was in the right place though when they vented the roof and void spaces that were charged.
