Yesterday about 0600 at 64th & Woodlawn in Chicago.. Large monolithic type church building with an attached school. Extensive remodeling was taking place and apparently spontaneous ignition of some varnish soaked rages was the origin.

The fire was in the choir loft and involved the roof in short order. It was pretty much defensive from arrival. The attached school building was apparently being used as a  shelter for challenged people.

The fire was confined to the church occupancy. Three tower ladders, a deck gun, and multi-versal in addition to a point of vantage line were all used. This area was once the equivalent of the south bronx … large vacants and numerous fires.
