Took in the still & box alarm Sunday at Cortland and Kingsbury in Chicago, an industrial area with a fire in a large scrap metal operation. A big stack of junk cars was going. This location is right on the river, so as a result Engine 2, the large fireboat was sent to the scene. They eventually supplied a 4-inch line to Engine 55 which then supplied a multiversal. There was some thought about using the big guns, and the “crows nest” turret was raised on the rear of the boat, but there was not really a clear shot to the burning pile from the river location. Access in and around the scene was poor. All of the photos and video from this incident can be seen on my site

Here are some photos and a video of the 4-Alarm apartment fire in Oak Park, IL last week.

On 10-20-15 around 9:30PM Oak Park 620 pulled up on a 4-story apartment complex with fire blowing out the roof and requested a box alarm shortly after. Companies initiated an interior attack but were having water issues and had to pull out due to the fire volume being greater than the water volume. 620 requested a 2nd alarm and started to put truck companies, aerials, and master streams to work. Oak Park 631 was positioned on side A, River Forest 219 was on the A/B corner, Cicero Truck 2 was on the C side, Berwyn 904 was on the D side, and Chicago truck 29 was on the A/D corner working with water flowing. Companies had exposure problems on the C side, the original building had fire on all four floors.

Yesterday afternoon Brookfield had a Box Alarm @ 3308 s Sunnyside. First in companies reported heavy smoke showing from the attic. Companies made a good push but couldn’t get it, command backed everyone out due to the conditions present and went defensive. There were 4 hand lines working and Riverside’s truck was ready to go. Here are some shots.

I have a short video @ http://chi-townfirephotos.smugmug.com/Suburban-Fires-/2015-Fires/Brookfield-Box-Alarm-3308-s-Su/
