Tom Carmody submitted this fire in Pawtucket, RI that went to 3 alarms.

Pawtucket, RI firefighters responded to Dudley Street for a house fire. On arrival, fire was showing from the second floor of an occupied three decker.  Everyone had made it out prior to the arrival of the fire department.  Numerous lines were stretched but interior crews found fire everywhere that they opened up and the fire eventually made its way up through the roof.  Two ladder pipes knocked the fire down before companies went back in and overhauled.

Volunteers from Lake Meade, East Berlin, York Springs, United Hook and Ladder, Franklintown, and Dillsburg responded. Engine 26 from Lake Meade arrived on scene within four minutes of dispatch advising of a single-family, one-story, ordinary construction home, with a well involved attached garage. A working fire dispatch was requested immediately, adding additional tankers and engine companies to the assignment.

E26’s crew advanced handlines into the structure to make an effort to stop the extension into the living quarters of the home. The fire  got up in the cockloft and began venting through the roof within ten minutes of the fire departments arrival. The fire eventually extended well into the home and the officer in charge ordered the companies to go to exterior operations.

Firefighters rescued several cats from the burning home, sadly one perished due to the smoke conditions it was found in.

Several weeks ago, the Lake Zurich Fire Department (IL) responded to a reported house fire in nearby Hawthorn Woods, which is within their fire district. They found fire in an abandoned two-story house on a wooded lot that was extremely grown over.

Companies hit the fire and made a quick search before declaring the structure unsafe for interior operations to overhaul and completely extinguish the fire. At that point, a decision was made to standby and monitor the building, letting the fire consume the entire structure.

More images from Steve Redick from Chicago’s 4-11 Alarm fire on September 11, 2013.

Took a while and a several block walk to work our way around to the western portion of the complex. Had to climb an embankment and was surprised to see heavy smoke pushing from about another 200-foot section of building. Fire had complete possession and was coming through the roof. Was able to stay for a bit and get some interesting shots till the radiant heat drove us away. Never did get any real water into this area for quite some time … very difficult access and water problems. Some nice images of DDC1, T52 and 65 working in this area …
