Wheeling (IL) firefighters responded to 900 Valley Stream Drive Monday morning (2/2/20) for a reported basement fire. Upon arrival, smoke was seen and the alarm was upgraded to a working fire. A window on the bottom level of the split-level home blew out with flames,es and heavy smoke. Firefighters took two lines into the house and extinguished the fire quickly. Overhaul and wash down of both the interior and exterior was extensive.

Springfield, MA 2nd alarm at 140 Wilbraham Ave 06/27/16 – Companies arrived to find a heavy smoke condition emanating from a multi-story, mill building. An interior attack was quickly initiated, but was transitioned to an exterior attack due to deep seated fire conditions within the building. A second alarm was transmitted on the box bringing an additional two engines and truck. Companies set up for a long duration defensive fight.

The fire burned for more than six hours with conditions worsening due to a steady wind blowing. The fire would spread to the number four side wing before an excavator breached a wall and allowed firefighters to gain access to the deep seated fire.

The blaze was declared under control some eight hours after the initial alarm. The cause of the fire is being investigated by the marshals and Massachusetts State Police. Several firefighters were treated for heat exhaustion on scene.
