Lyons, IL Box Alarm hour fire:

Here is a synopsis of rigs that were working at the Lyons (IL) Box alarm on Maple Avenue Sunday.  I was too late to get anything else.  There were four rigs working on Maple in front of the fire building.  Lyons Engine 1312 was directly in front with McCook Engine 1411 directly north of them.  Riverside Truck 1629 was working directly to the south of 1312 and Bedford Park Truck 709 was set up directly to the south of them.  Lyons Engine 1316 had a hydrant on the corner of Maple and 41st Place.  From there, there was a long lead to the Cermak Quarry where Berwyn Engine 903 was drafting from the pond.  Forest View Engine 813 was originally set up in that position but was not pumping.  Finally, Lyons Engine 1311 had a hydrant at the corner of Joliet Road and Elm Avenue, a good two-plus blocks south of the fire building.

Harvey, IL Full Still Alarm house fire:

Just three quick shots from Harvey’s full still Sunday afternoon.  I did not arrive in time to get much but with the nice sunlight and blue skies, I thought I would send in a couple of rig shots.  Harvey’s first-in engine was the ex-Dixmoor Engine 33.  Fire was in the rear porches and gave off an impressive header.  Companies did a great job of keeping it out of the attic and keeping it from extending into the rest of the structure which was an occupied residence.

Cicero, IL companies were dispatched to a reported structure fire @ 5742 w. 24th Street this afternoon. While en-route the chief confirmed he had a fire. First-in companies reported fire blowing out of the 2nd floor on arrival. Engine 2 dropped a 2-1/2 to the rear while Truck 2 laddered the front of the building. Here are some of my pictures.

A vacant residence was moderately damaged after a yard debris fire spread to the building. The yard fire caught the siding of the building on fire in two places, then advanced up the walls into the attic. The fire also spread into the adjacent woods and endangered a mobile home on the property.

Colleton County (SC) Firefighters arrived to find an approximately 1 acre grass fire, smoke coming from the woods, and heavy smoke coming from the wooden single-story building, with flames visible from the roof at the rear of the building. Crews deployed two 1-3/4 handlines, knocked down the yard fire near the mobile home, and the fire on the exterior of the structure. They then advanced the line inside the structure and extinguished the fire in the front room. Firefighters pulled the ceiling in the back bedroom to reach the fire in the attic. It was necessary to remove a portion of the metal roof to access the fire under the tin. No one was living in the home. A SC Forestry Tractor was called to plow a fire line around the woods fire. Fire units were on the scene for two hours.

Engine 1, Engine 6, Tender 1, Tender 2, Tender 6, Tender 25, Tender 27, Medic 6, Battalion 1, Car 12, Car 105 and Car 111 responded. Battalion Chief Brent Dalton served as Incident Commander.

Monday morning at 10:34, Adams County Box Alarm 22-3 was struck for the barn fire at 2425 Baltimore Pike, Gettysburg Pa.

It was clearly evident from the number of calls the Adams County 911 Center was receiving that this was going to be a working fire. A large black header was visible for miles.

Units were notified on dispatch of a working barn fire. Truck 1 arrived with an 80’ wide by 450’ long barn with fire showing. The barn was being used for storage. No animals occupied the barn. Firefighters were challenged from dispatch as this fire had a large fire load since the building was completely filled with storage items, making it too dangerous to fight the fire from the interior.

Multiple master streams and a ladder pipe from Truck 1 were used to extinguish the fire. In addition there were several propane tanks on the exterior of the building. Firefighters worked fast to cool the tanks. Several pieces of construction equipment were removed from the scene by the property owner as firefighters battled the blaze. It took nearly 2 hours to bring the fire under control.
