1-21-14 – Chicago companies were dispatched to a working fire in the 6500 blk of south Green. I was sitting at 47th and Halsted when this came in. As soon as they dispatched the companies, you could see the header. Engine 47 arrived and lead out a line to the second floor. Truck Co. 18 had the main to the roof and cut a few holes. Fire was knocked pretty quick. Here are my pictures.

The Highland Park Fire Department received a report of a house fire at 2776 Oak Street, located at the far northern edge of town along the Ft Sheridan property and the lakefront. A Commonwealth Edison worker reported smoke coming from the house. The alarm dispatch went right to the Code 4 for the working fire, bringing all Highland Park units in addition to Highwood, Countryside, and Deerfield.

Upon arrival, the size up mentioned smoke showing from two sides. Firefighters found a well involved kitchen fire that was contained quickly. The occupants were not home at the time. Firefighters brought a cat out of the house and administered oxygen. Reportedly another cat perished.

Tim Olk submitted these images from the scene.

Christmas morning was a busy one for fire companies in Chicago’s 18th Battalion as they battled 2 still & box alarm fires within hours of each other.  The first was in the 6900 block of South Throop and occurred at about 0730 hrs.  The second occurred less than a mile from the first, on the 6500 block of South Marshfield.  The second fire was dispatched at 1010 hrs.  I arrived about 25 minutes in and smoke was still pouring fairly heavily from the roof.  The 18th Battalion Chief boxed this fire shortly after arrival, reporting a fire in the basement with fire on the first and moving to the second.  The building was a 25 x 60, occupied 2-flat.  4 lines were used, all from Engine 116 which was the only engine flowing water.  The box was struck at 1105 hrs.  10 residents were displaced by this incident.
