|| SAFD || 2 ALARM APARTMENT FIRE || 09.26.16 || The SAFD battled a 2-alarm apartment fire on the city’s north east side Tuesday afternoon. Shortly after 1300hrs, crews were dispatched to the 3900 Blk. of Perrin Central Blvd for a reported odor of smoke in the area. Upon Engine 39’s arrival, smoke was seen billowing out of a C-Side, division 3 (3rd floor) apartment and a working fire was declared.

Upon Battalion Chief 7’s arrival and assumption of command, fire began running into the attic of the fire apartment, and more manpower was needed. Shortly thereafter a 2nd Alarm was struck. After a chimney collapsed and fire spread through the walls into division 2, command changed strategies and crews went defensive. The set up master stream operations off of Platform Ladder Co. 51 and Truck Co. 14, and deployed multiple hand lines. Crews remained on scene for well over two hours mopping up and doing extensive overhaul throughout the entire apartment building.

No injuries were reported, though there were numerous pets rescued, including a family’s hamster. Companies on the box were EN39, EN24, EN40, EN17, EN23, EN51, EN14, EN48, EN31, EN06, TK14, TK17, TK40, TK06, PL51, M18, HR51, BC05, BC06, BC07, SO1, EMS03, EMS04, and MAC07.
