  1. I have a question and can’t seem to find a good CFD forum. It’s something that I haven’t been able to get a serious answer to. For CFD FFs or people who know, why do the large cities purchase aerials that are not pre-piped? Is it cost, convenience or just preference? I’ve never understood this. Thanks, stay safe.

  2. SA – A good resource for you would be at chicagoareafire.com . This blog has many great CFD photos’s and followers from the CFD area and some former CFD brothers. Many are VERY knowledgeable and might be able to answer your query.
Bill P posts there frequently and is scary in his CFD knowledge !!!

  3. I happened on this site while looking up a fire that happened near my home, and ended up finding full drone coverage. The photos and videos here are fantastic. Really well done and very interesting. Just wanted to say Thanks!

    • thanks Rob – there are several talented photographers that submit images to this site making it interesting!

  4. I have 2 questions.

    1. When I was a child growing up in Chicago back in the late 50s early 60s, I seem to remember the old Autocar Squad Companies having a nickname called Pull motors is anyone familiar with that term and if so does anyone know why they were referred to by that name?

2.Are there any records of Chicago Firehouse Locations from the past and if so where may I find these records?, I grew up in the 69th & Ashland Ave neighborhood, prior to Engine 101’s house being built at it’s current location in the late sixties, there was a firehouse at 69th & Justine which is gone now, does anyone know if that house was the old quarters of Engine 101 and as it was a single engine house where was Truck 41 located?

    Any help would be appreciated.

  5. I would like permission to use two photos from this website. The first is by Eric Haak titled “Chicago 2-11, Dated 12/25/2017.

The Second is by Steve Redick, titled CFD Snorkel 1 SRR.

Both Photos are to be used in a self-published novel about the Chicago Fire Department.

    Thank You!

  6. I was looking to get a picture of one of your fires its one with engine 84. Can you email me and I’ll send you my contact information

  7. Hi there!! I found this site by accident and the photos are amazing!! I am the daughter of a retired Firefighter/Arson investigator. My father was, and still is so incredibly passionate about his career and serving his community, to the degree that he finally officially retired 2 years ago and went out and found a part time job in another district so he can still do what he loves. Recently my mother was diagnosed with cancer, things have been very hard for him and he is beyond himself with stress and worry. In an effort to cheer him up, my children and I have began the mission of helping him collect patches from all over the world. He has a small collection already, but, he would never be able to obtain as many as he would love to have. Every time we bring him a new one, his day becomes a little brighter and he takes it right to the book we made him to keep them in, and delights in adding to his collection. If by some chance, there is someone, or more than one someone, out there that would like to help cheer up my dad and add to his collection, we would be forever grateful for your contribution and for your help in making this possible for him. My address will be at the end of this post. And to all the firefighters, May you all be safe, return home to those who love you, and thank you for giving the gift of safety back to those who live in the communities in which you work so hard to protect. Gods Speed to all of you…
