A young boy inner-tubing behind a boat went under the water which prompted his sister and their step-father to try finding him in the water. The man was able to get the boy back in the boat, but he then went under. The kids, their mother, and two dogs made it back to shore. Firefighters were paged to the river near Memorial Park in Wausau around 2 p.m. Thursday.

The Marathon County Dive Team was also brought in. The wind conditions made it dangerous for the search. It was challenging for the dive team under the water, and they were using sonar equipment. A helicopter was paged at the beginning of the search, but was called off due to the windy conditions, which is also why a drone was not used in the search. The search was called off at 9:15PM Thursday. Search crews will be back Friday morning at 7AM. WGWI-PUBLICATIONS will follow this situation and bring you any updates on our Facebook Page Search  WGWI-PUBLICATIONS.

Waterloo (ON) firefighters were dispatched to a 4” gas main that had been hit by a back hoe, June 12, 9:10 am, at King St North, and Hickory Street. P1, A1, P3, and Car 23 responded to the call. Firefighters evacuated area businesses and homes and had both universities tweet out warnings to students to stay clear of the area. Area schools were also asked to advise students to avoid the area.

Union gas was called to shut the gas down. They had difficulty accessing shut offs, and had one valve that malfunctioned. Union Gas advised command that they were going to have to dig up the road in a number of areas to access the main line as well as four other lines that were feeding it.

Box 690 responded to the call on this information as the temperature with the humidex factored in was 100 Fahrenheit. Command advised to set up rehab one block north of the leak. Photos and short video shot an hour into the call.

Kitchener ON, fire dispatch received 19, 9-1-1 calls reporting a house fire at 66 West Ave at 8:38 June 13, 2017. P2, A2, P5, R1 and Car 23 were dispatched to a confirmed structure fire. Responding crews all reported smoke showing as they left their stations. P1 and A1 were added to the call before P2 arrived on scene. Pump 2 arrived to a fully-involved, empty, story and a half house with extension into occupied houses on either side. Large and small lines plus a monitor were quickly deployed to attack the fire.

The bulk of the fire was knocked down in 25 minutes. The house on the E2 side of the fire had a steel roof which made accessing the attic very difficult. Firefighters cut a large hole in the front of the house to gain access to fight the attic fire. Another team of firefighters entered the house on the E4 side to extinguish a fire in the upstairs bedroom. P7 was added to the call for manpower. I was at an appointment and got to the fire a half an hour in. Box 690 provided rehab, our third call in less than 24 hours, having responded to a house fire in Cambridge the previous night, and a Waterloo gas leak the previous morning.

Chicago’s 18th Battalion battled a working fire in a red-X building at 3849 on Flournoy. Chicago Police helicopter ‘PH1’ called it in on the Zone and reported that there was a house on fire and it was really cooking. Engine 95 deck-gunned it on arrival as they had heavy fire showing from the 2, and then companies led out (2) 2.5” lines while performing an exterior attack. A third line was led out as Squad 1’s Snorkel was set up and flowing water in the vacant lot on Side D.

A Stanley Ave family lost their home to an early morning fire Sunday 11-June. The location is a rural dirt road approximately 2 miles south of Walterboro, SC. At 03:43, 9-1-1 was notified of a well-involved house fire at 461 Stanley Ave. Colleton County (SC) Engine 1 arrived to find the single-story, wooden dwelling fully involved. The home was originally a farm house constructed in the 1920s. The homeowner was awakened by the smell of smoke and found fire in the front of the residence. He was able to quickly evacuate the other family members to safety, however several dogs and two birds perished in the blaze.

The family made attempts to rescue the animals, but were driven from the home by the fire and thick smoke. Firefighter-paramedics deployed one 2-1/2 handline and three 1-3/4 lines to combat the fire. Crews worked for nearly 35 minutes to bring the fire under control and were on the scene for five hours performing overhaul. The family lost most of their belongings. A pickup truck and boat were also destroyed. Water supply was conducted using a tender shuttle from a pressurized hydrant approximately two miles from the incident location. Water supply was initially hampered due to a live power line that fell across the single lane dirt road. The fire appears to have been electrical in origin. The American Red Cross is assisting the family.

Engine 1, Engine 27, Tender 1, Tender 4, Tender 8, Tender 26, Medic 1, Medic 13, Medic 26, Battalion 1, Car 110, Car 112, and Car 118 responded. Battalion Chief Scott O’Quinn served as Incident Commander.
